Sori (Underneath) 2016. Sugar balls, plastic skin 6 feet diameter.

This work is hidden underneath the floor. I’ve glued a cluster of shiny sugar balls at the edge of a plastic skin, which I’ve also painted white to camouflage it into the room. The work is hard to see if I keep it closed. By peeling off the skin, I reveal the sugar balls to my audience, providing them a new experience of the space.

Sweet Sweat  (detail), 2015. Digital Print in collaboration with Francesca Ulivi (ph. Daniele Cavadini) Emotions are typically accompanied by physiological and behavioral changes in the body. Love. Anger. Courage. Fear. Anxiety. Feelings can trigger sweating. This costume is made out of silk and covered with sugar balls on its armpits. These small spheres allude to the droplets of perspiration on the skin, a site for intimate communication. The balls’ metallic finishing has a surrealist tone.

Untitled, 2016. Still from video in collaboration with StrangeLoop by Eva Maria Lourdes.

In this video, my collaborator and I engage in sensual gestures of communication with a fern. We try to achieve an alliance across human and non-human and we focus on feelings because it moves us away from an understanding being strictly cognitive. Ferns date back two hundred million years before the flowering plants evolved. They reproduce via spores, which are located underneath their fronds. The audience witnesses our encounter with plants as we approach them wearing lace gloves. The white polka dots create a formal link to the plant’s spores.

Holes and residues series (ongoing).

Cantaloupe, fabric, glitter, found video.

The Horseshoe Crab (2017) performance in collaboration with Caroline Dahlberg  shown at The Sounds of Crickets curated by Gabby Burbano @Sedgwick Studio Chicago, IL Our poem refers to phenomena such as bioluminescence and mimicry as forms of communication (self-defense) adopted by sea creatures. This performance includes gestures, readings, and an exploration of various materials. We pour liquids when talking about bleeding and leaking corpses. A soft body is trapped in a red shoe and we take a handful of water jelly crystals, hold it out, in case anyone wants it.
